2-D BARCODES ENHANCE ART GALLERY EXPERIENCE
St. Louis Photographer Lauri Baker Changing the Way We View Art
Technology is affecting everything we do – including viewing art. Local photographer Lauri Baker will be using 2-D barcode technology to offer additional information about each of her photographs you might be viewing at the April 9th opening reception for her show “Visceral” at the studio/gallery of S.Carmody Photography at 2707 Sutton Blvd in Maplewood. Bring your smart phone, armed with a scanning app such as QuickMark or NeoReader, and you’ll be able to see more information about each photograph than what’s posted on the wall.
This can be quite handy when you’re at a gallery opening and the artist is busy talking with other people, or if you simply want information on many pieces and don’t want to monopolize anyone’s time. At the same time, the technology doesn’t hinder the ability to socialize at the opening reception, the way an audio tour can.
2-D barcode technology has been popular in Japan for a couple of years, and is now gaining popularity in the U.S. With a free application downloaded to your phone, you can take a picture or scan a barcode, which serves as a visual link to direct you to a website, an email address, a phone number, or even special sales and coupons. 2-D barcodes are now appearing in magazine ads, product packaging, on websites, and more.
Lauri Baker is an nationally-published St. Louis photographer whose fine art works include images that celebrate the world around us. She is also a portrait photographer, specializing in maternity, newborns, and kids.
